| PPM launches campaign to garner support for ST status | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 22- To garner support of all the political parties for its demand of ST status, the Jammu and Kashmir Pahari Peoples Movement (PPM) has launched a sustained campaign. The Movement has launched a campaign of meetings with all political parties and kicked off the campaign today after having 2 hours long meeting with State Youth President of PDP Bashid Asad. Chief Executive of the Movement, Shahbaz Khan told Asad that Pahari community was denied ST status in 1989 after political interference of some leaders in New Delhi. He said that he is working for the up liftment of Pahari community under the guidance of Syed Mushtaq Bukhari, Chairman of J&K Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum. Elaborating the demand, Khan told Asad that although Pahari tribe was at No 1 in the list of recommendations of state government in 1989 but was dropped from the list due to unknown reason. He said that even Centre government gave ST status to Gujjars after relaxation in norms. He said that Gujjars case was rejected and after relaxing the rules, they were given ST status. He added that Paharies are also part and parcel of the same environment in which Gujjars are living. Asad assured PPM leader full support from his party in taking the demand to its logical conclusion. “I will discuss the matter with Party President Mehbooba Mufti and senior leader Muzafer Hussain Baig and we will definitely support Paharies in this cause”, he added. PDP leader Tazeem Dar of Rajouri facilitated the meeting of two leaders here today. Other PDP leaders present at the meeting included Rajinder Manhas, Sohit Sharma, Sonu Singh and Romail Jaggi.
