1/22/2010 11:41:07 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 22- BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, accompanied by former President Ashok Khajuria, called on B.R. Sharma, Chief Electoral Officer here today and discussed a number of issues with regard to forthcoming Local Bodies and Panchayat elections. They suggested that the voter lists of Parliament or Assembly should not be used for corporation/panchayat elections as it will create confusions and will further hamper the democratic process.
They further suggested that separate voter lists for Local Bodies should be prepared afresh after considering the old lists also. The CEO was told to computerize the voter lists for both these elections for ensuring free and fair elections. The BJP leaders also impressed upon the Chief Electoral Officer that separate office of VLO should be set up in each Ward where exercise of deletion, addition or alternation should be undertaken so that every voter can register his objections at a nearby place and complete and valid voter lists are prepared.
