| Exercise restraint to avoid war: Mirwaiz | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 22: Hurriyat chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today urged New Delhi and Islamabad to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from making war inevitable. He was addressing a Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid today. Expressing serious concern over growing tension along LoC and international border, the Mirwaiz said the two neighbours can solve all their disputes through negotiations. “India and Pakistan must resume dialogue as soon as possible in the best interests of peace in South-Asia”, he said. Umer said the people of the sub-continent suffer when tension escalates. “The people of Jammu Kashmir always bear the brunt of Indo-Pak tension. Trans-border shelling kills people of Jammu Kashmir. Border shelling also triggers large scale migration from the border areas. The cease-fire along the LoC had ushered in an era of peace and prosperity in such areas but resumption of shelling has once again scared the people”, he said. Umer stressed need for a meaningful and result oriented dialogue for resolution of Kashmir dispute. “This alone would lead to permanent peace in the region”, he made clear. Taking strong exception to house to house searches and frisking of people in city and elsewhere, Umer said Kashmir has been turned into a cantonment.
