| Foggy conditions to continue | | | Early Times Report JAMMU/SRINAGAR, JAN 22: Cold wave intensified its grip in entire north India toady. Jammu and Ladakh regions are not exceptions. But weather showed slight improvement in Kashmir valley following increase in minimum temperature recorded as low as minus 1.3 deg C, against minus 2.9 deg C of yesterday. As per metrological department, prevailing foggy weather will continue for few days though there is possibility of rain showers at Hamalayan range which could provide sigh of relief and weather conditions may improve. Senior Meteorologists Dr. M K Khushoo informed that prevailing weather will continue to chill for next 48 hours. He said that dense fog at planes did not enable to receive exact reading of meteorological data; however, higher reaches are comparatively in better conditions than that of planes, he added. Meanwhile, night temperature slashed down to 3.6 degrees C, 4.4 deg C below normal in Jammu, against 4.6 deg C of yesterday. Banihal continued to be the coldest place in the state with a minimum of 2 deg C. Batote recorded a low of 6.6 degrees C. Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a minimum of 8 deg C and 3 deg C respectively. In frontier region of Ladakh, Kargil recorded a low of minus 12.8 deg C, while Leh recorded a minimum of minus 10.8 deg C. In neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh this morning after minimum temperature dipped by up to five degrees below normal in the region as per MeT reports, Amritsar remained coldest place at minus 1.2 degree C. Chandigarh recorded a low of 6.8 deg C, 1.0 degree above normal. “If fog and cold continues to prevail, I will leave beck to Valley on the month end” Hilal Ahmed Baba said and added that he used to come to Jammu during winter for two to three moths for the last 25 years but had never experienced such weather here before. “People say that weather results are due to climate change, if so continues from the next year I will not bring my family along with me” said an employee of civil secretariat requesting anonymity. He further said that in valley to face the cold people used to make adequate arrangements but at Jammu it is difficult to face cold wave due to culture difference.
