| Govt regularizes excessive nominations in AMT Srinagar | | | Srinagar, July 23 : State government has regularized the admission of about 694 candidates who were nominated for undergoing various training course in AMT School Srinagar in the year 2003-04 by the then health minister in relaxation of norms.
Sources in the health department said that principal secretary government health and medical education department issued a formal order, on the directions of the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, on July 21, 2006. The order regularized the nominations and the AMT School was also directed to conduct special examination of these candidates.
It is pertinent to mention here that the then health minister's made 594 nominations, which was said to be much more than prescribed number. The matter created uproar in the state assembly during the budget sessions of 2005, which forced the minister to cancel all the excess nominations.
Aggrieved with the government order, the candidates, whose nominations were cancelled, approached the state High Court, which directed the government to allow the petitioners to continue their training and also directed it to scrutinize the nomination list.
The government reportedly took a lenient view of the candidates and observed that they have almost completed two years of training and in such circumstances showing door to them would be injustice.
"The intake capacity of the seats of Paramedical Training course of AMT School Srinagar for the session 2003-04 shall be deemed to have been increased to 694, i.e. equal to the number of candidates, who were nominated by the ex-ministers of the state or other authorities as one time exception", the order reads. |
