| Red alert in Jammu, border fence foundcut in RS Pura sector | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 22: Troops were today put on high alert and multiple ambushes were laid along the International Border (IB) in R S Pura sector near here after realigned new fencing was found cut at Abdullian. The first reaction was panicky as apprehensions were that infiltrators might have succeeded in sneaking into the Indian territory to disrupt Republic Day celebrations in the state's winter capital city, police sources said. As the word spread, BSF troops in R S Pura sector were alerted. Sources said ambushes were then laid in R S Pura fields and on all the roads leading to the town. The impact was seen in the capital city too with police putting barriers on roads and not letting any vehicle to enter the city unchecked. Police teams were also fanned out on the outer roads of Sidhra, Narwal and Kanhachak. Sources said the fencing wires were found cut at Abdullian by a patrol of 139 Bn of BSF at about 3 pm. At least nine wires were cut from the Pakistani side and over 10 from the Indian side, the sources added. As the wires were cut from the Indian side also, this gave strength to the suspicion that infiltrators might have found their way into India. Sources said soon thereafter, IG BSF (Jammu Frontier), DIG BSF and senior police officers, including DSP Gill, reached the spot. The senior BSF and police officers supervised the combing operation in Abdullian area till 8 pm when it was found that the main barbed-wire fencing was intact. Sources said the infiltrators had either crossed back to Pakistan after cutting the wire or they were still hiding in thick sarkanda between the old and new fencing. Reinforcements had been despatched to Abdullian and a massive "seek and destroy" operation launched to flush out infiltrators, if any, was on till late tonight. In the city also, police said it would not lower its guard tonight. Sources said police teams had also laid ambushes at different places on the Nikki Tawi river bed -- a known infiltration route of militants. On the upper Akhnoor road also, police had laid ambushes at several places.
