| Sopori enthrals music lovers | | | Early Times Report Jammu, January 23-Sopori Academy of Music and performing Art (Sa MaPa), in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Tourism Department, as a part of its fortnight festival of scintillating classical, Sufi and folk music, last evening, presented a musical concert at Tourist Reception Centre, Jammu. The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Secretary Tourism and Culture, Mrs Tanveer Jehan, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Renzu, Director Tourism Jammu, Mr. S. M. Sahni, besides senior officers of Cultural Academy, media persons, tourists, and a large number of music lovers of Jammu witnessed the programme. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir has a rich cultural heritage and such efforts, as that of Sa Ma Pa would remind the youth of the glorious ethos. He said though the Government was laying great thrust on promoting cultural identity of all the regions through Cultural Academy, yet there was a lot to do in this direction. Jora said that the Government was doing a lot to preserve the art and culture of the State for posterity to know about its essence, adding that with this objective, cultural festivals are being organized across the State in near future. Observing that J&K was blessed with tremendous talent in different fields of art and culture, the Minister said, the State has produced artists of great repute who have achieved success at national and international level. He said that the Government has encouraged and promoted the State’s artists from time to time and will continue its endeavours to harness the hidden talent of the State. Jora felicitated Santoor maestro Pt. Bhajan Sopori, Pt. Abhay Rustam Sopori and their team by presenting shawls. He appreciated the efforts of Pt. Bhajan Sopori for promoting classical and folk music of the country by providing a platform to the youth for exhibiting their hidden talent in music and classical art of the State. The Minister invited the Santoor maestro to perform in Kashmir and Ladakh and said that people there are also profound music lovers and keen to watch his performance.
