| Artificial lake to come up near Gujjar Nagar | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JAN 23: Highlighting the role of tourism industry in ensuring socio-economic development of the State, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that a comprehensive plan has been formulated to promote the virgin tourist potential spots in the State. Addressing a public gathering today at Har-ki- Pauri, Bagh-e-Bahu after laying foundation of view decks there, the Minister said that tourism was a source, in Jammu, second to none, to boom the economy of the province. He said a massive developmental programme has been initiated to give a modern facelift to tourist destinations, besides, creating recreational facilities for the visiting tourists in the region. Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla was also present on the occasion. Giving details of the initiatives, the Minister said that a Tourist Reception Centre, with modern facilities, at Railway Station Jammu, would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. He said after completing all codal formalities, the work on the project would be started adding that construction of ropeway from Mubarak Mandi Palace to Bagh-e-Bahu would be taken up April next. Mr. Jora said that restoration and conservation works on Dogra Heritage, Mubarak Mandi Complex and centuries old Bahu Fort has been already taken up. He said a whooping amount of over Rs. 250 crore is being incurred on the restoration of these heritage monuments. He said Golf Course, Sidhra is also being developed at a total cost of Rs. 44 crore and added that the nine Hole first phase of the Course would Tee-Off in March next. Elaborating the details, the Minister said that a artificial lake was coming up near Gujjar Nagar on River Tawi. He said the historical Peerkhoo Temple is aslo being developed at a cost of Rs. 3.50 crore, adding that a Theme Park would also be developed near Peerkhoo for the attraction of the tourists. He said in this regard a project has been formulated and work would be started on Public-Private-Partnership mode. The Minister said that the Government was keen to explore tourism potential of the State fully and showcase the same throughout the country and aboard as well. He said this year, various festivals, road shows, publicity campaigns and tour and traveler meets are being organized outside the State to invite more and more tourists to the visit the State. Raman Bhalla in his address said that the Government was endeavouring to uplift the socio-economic condition of the people of the State. He said, beside other sectors, promotion of tourism industry was also one of the priorities of the Government. He said, Jammu, in near future would become a hub of tourism activities. He said, besides developing new tourist destinations in the region, a massive tourism infrastructure base was being developed in the region for visiting tourists. The Minister said the tourism potential of Bagh-e-Bahu and its adjoining areas would also be developed in a proper manner under Bahu Fort Tourism circuit, adding that implementation of JNRUM also guarantees the beautification of Jammu city.
