| Tehsildar gheroed, locked in office in Poonch | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 23: The Poonch district Tehsildar today faced the public ire when driven by a strong feeling of displeasure and hostility against him, over a hundred people gheroed him and then locked him in his office for his alleged non-availability to them for the past over a month.
Tehsildar Abdul Razak's office was allegedly found locked whenever people from different Poonch areas visited him to get their works done.
As it was found locked today also, people staged a demonstration outside his office in Poonch town amidst raising of slogans.
Official sources said when Razak came to know about the protest against him, he immediately reached his office. The moment the people saw him, they gheroed him which led to heated exchange of words between them.
Sources said the exchange of hot words between them continued for quite sometime. Later, when Razak opened the lock of his office and stepped inside, the agitated people locked him from outside.
However, following an assurance from him that he would daily attend office, the people freed him. He remained confined in the office for more than half an hour, the sources added.
Sources said as the four posts of Naib-Tehsildars in Poonch were lying vacant, people needed the presence of the tehsildar for obtaining refugee certificates and getting other works done.
Razak was to retire on March 31 this year.
