Upper House Panel inspects forestry work in Rajouri

RAJOURI, JAN 24: Department Related Committee (DRC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council headed by its Chairman, Mr. Mohammad Rashid Qureshi today visited various areas of Rajouri district to take stock of various afforestation works undertaken by the Forest and its allied Wings.
Altaf Ahmad Wani, Mr. Ravinder Sharma, Mr. Narboo Gulchain, Aga Syed Ahmad Rizvi and Mr. Jehangir Hussain Mir, Legislators, Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Mr. Subash Sharma, Conservator of Forests, Social Forestry, Mr. Manoj Panth and other concerned senior officers accompanied the Chairman.
While interacting with the concerned officers during inspection at Nursery Bal Shama, Sunderbani, the Chairman asked for involving people in soil conservation programmes. He said that the developmental works executed in forest areas should focus on conservation of forest wealth.
On the occasion, it was informed the work on the eco restoration of the area has started in 1987 with fencing of the designated area and undertaking the vegetative as well as non-vegetative conservation measures including the Gully plugging, Dry Rubble Stone Masonry (DRSM) and lying of wire crates.
It was also informed that a composite menu of treatment comprised of planting 1,26,849 saplings of locally suitable and socially acceptable plant species like Dendrocalanuts Srictus, Acacia, Nilotica, Dalbergia, Sisoo, Bauhinia, Vaariegata, Leucanea, Leucocephla, Bombax, Ceiaba, Eulaphyttus and Deltiodes undertaking 375 cubic meters of DRSM, Gully plugging and laying of crates were accomplished in the target area.
The Committee also suggested for construction of forest hut at Juthal Gala for convenience of the people as well as tourists and asked the Chief Conservator of Forests to prepare a comprehensive plan in this regard.
The Committee also inspected the Bakhar Closure, Nowshera.
At Rajouri, Forest authorities informed the Committee that the target has been fixed for distribution of 31,500 cft of timber for Forest Divisions of Rajouri and Nowshera.
