Chib declares open Indo-Canadian friendly match at Leh

LEH, JAN 24: Reiterating government’s resolve to promote sports in the State in a big way, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Medical Education and Technical Education, Mr. R. S. Chib has said that world-class sports infrastructure is being developed to enable youth withstand competition in sports both at State and National levels.
The Minister was addressing a gathering after declaring open Indo-Canadian friendly match, between ITBP and Canadian team at Karzu Ice Hockey Rink, Leh here today.
Minister of State for Health, Mr. Javaid Ahmad Dar, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Chering Dorjai, Executive Councillor, Dorjai Stanzin and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Mr. Mohammad Hanief and prominent citizens and sports lovers were present on the occasion.
Expressing his gratitude to the Union sports Ministry for their financial support to the State Government, Mr. Chib said that all the required facilities are being created in the State to exploit the sports talent among the youth both in rural as well as urban areas. He said basic sports infrastructure is being developed at State, Divisional and District levels.
Stressing for promoting national integration, Mr. Chib said that inter-state tournaments play a vital role in this regard as these activities promote cultural and social exchange.
Chib thanked the Canadian team for their visit to the State and also for taking part in friendly match.
Later, the Minister accompanied by Executive Councillor and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Mr. A. K. Sahu inspected the International Ice Hockey Rink, under construction at a cost of Rs 7.71 crore. The Minister was informed that Rs 1.67 crore has been spent on the project sofar.
Chib directed the executing agency to speed up the pace of work so that next CEC Ice Hockey tournament could be played in the new Rink.
Several deputations also called on the Minister during his two-day stay at Leh which included members of Polo Promotion committee, Officers of Youth Services and Sports and Members of Ladakh Winter Sports Club. The deputationists apprised the Minister about various problems confronting them. Mr. Chib assured the deputationists that necessary steps shall be taken to redress their grievances at an earliest.
Chib directed Sports Officer, Leh, Mr. Fida Hussain to submit a proposal for construction of Youth Hostel in Leh.
