| Writers call for promotion of Urdu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JAN 24: A galaxy of writers, poets, fiction writers, authors and Urdu lovers today in a meeting organized by Urdu Development Council Jammu and Kashmir in its annual Executive Meeting highlighted the importance of Urdu language in the State. Since this is the only State in the country where first official language is Urdu, therefore, it is necessary that all right thinking people should work for its overall development and give it a due status. The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammad Sharief Sartaj, Mr. Sham Talib, Prof. Zahoor-ul-Din, Advocate Anand Lehar, Mr. Nand Gopal Bawa, Khawaja Farooq, Dr. Khursheed Hamira, Mr. Balraj Bakshi and Mr. R. K. Cnandan. Besides a large number of scholars, writers, fiction writers, authors and poets also participated. All the dignitaries were of the view that Urdu has a golden history and all big personalities of Urdu literature are being respected in all places. They said that there is a need for taking the steps so that the contribution of Urdu literary personalities are properly documented. They also said that all legal books and day-to-day circulars may be communicated through English as well as Urdu medium.
