| Treat girl child as an asset not a liability: DSUD | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 24: For the first time, the ‘girl child day’ was celebrated by the students and the staff members of project PAHL, under the aegis of Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha here today. On this occasion a special lecture was organized by the PAHL team to educate parents of girl child not to ignore the needs of their children and to give them equal love for their proper upbringing. The function was attended by majority of parents who have more than one girl child and still nursing the desire to have another child in the hope of giving birth to the male child. Among 108 students enrolled under Project PAHL, more than 70 are girl child. These students are taking keen interest in their regular class work and have also learned social etiquettes in a short span of time. These street children are being imparted free education under the project PAHL. The main lecture titled ‘girl child is no less than male child’ was delivered by Sunita Chandra, Secretary Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha. In her address to the parents of girl child she said, “Parents should not discriminate their children of mal treat them on the basis of their sex” and instead provide them equal opportunities to grow and compete in the competitive world. Chandra said a girl child is no less than a male child and added that a girl child is an asset and should not be treated as a liability. Parents should provide them maximum opportunities to progress by educating them. Chairman of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha, Onkar Nath Chandra distributed refreshment packets to street children and urged for inculcating good habits among the children for their proper growth.
