| BJP councilor demands revision of JMC electoral rolls | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 24 : Even as the State Government has yet to announce elections for civic bodies including Municipal Corporations and Municipal Committees but the issue of revision of electoral rolls seems to have started gaining momentum here. The latest in this series was demand of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councilor from ward number 65, Omi Khajuria who alleged that the decision of the state government to conduct Municipal Corporation elections on the electoral rolls of Assembly and Parliamentary polls was a “deep conspiracy.” Yesterday, the Chairman Public Health & Sanitation Committee, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Satish Kumar Sharma had shot off a letter to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K seeking revision of Municipal Corporation electoral rolls. As per the press statement issued here, the BJP councilor urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jammu and Kashmir for revision of electoral rolls and inclusion of people in the voter lists, who have settled in municipal limits since 2005. “After the last elections to the Corporation, a sizeable population has settled in these areas and the Corporation is providing basic civic amenities to these extended areas as well as the people living there,” he said, adding that these people should be given the right to exercise their franchise. He demanded that their names should be included in the electoral rolls as provided in the Act. “The decision of the state government to hold elections with same electoral rolls was a conspiracy,” he alleged.
