| Ominous J&K-related signals from Pakistan | | 'Jihad' alone will 'liberate' Kashmir: Salahuddin | |
NEW DELHI, OCT. 9 Beleaguered Kashmir will continue to bleed, with Hizbul Mujahideen declaring from the soil of Pakistan that 'jihad' is the only means to "liberate Kashmir from Indian occupation". Hizbul Mujahideen is one of the biggest terrorist organisations involved in bloodshed in Kashmir. The talk of 'jihad' in Indian Kashmir received a new impetus at a conference held at Peshawar, where the Hizbul Mujahideen's supreme commander, Syed Salahuddin, criticised the policies of Pakistan President, Gen. Parvez Musharraf, and said that due to his Kashmir policy, the "cause of Kashmir had received a setback". Salahuddin, according to Pakistani newspapers, spewed fire during his speech on Saturday (October 7) evening. Salahuddin left none in doubt about his organisation's plan to intensify "war of liberation in Indian occupied Kashmir". The Peshawar conference enjoyed official patronage. Doubts, if any in this regard, were set at rest by Sirajul Haq, senior provincial minister. Sirajul Haq is also said to enjoy "friendly and cooperative" relationship with Pakistan's ISI. Salahuddin was reported to have told the conference that the presence of lakhs of Indian military and paramilitary troops in Kashmir will not cow down the "Kashmiri fighters". "We have taken a firm decision to provide them all help", announced Salahuddin. He did not elaborate on it. The conference was also addressed by provincial minister, Sirajul Haq, the vice-amir of Hizbul Mujahideen, Abdul Wasai, provincial president, Abdul Malik, MPA Muzzafar Said and Amir Jamaat-i-Islami, Dir, Muohammad Gulab, reported the Dawn. The speakers urged the people to come forward and fully support the "Kashmir liberation movement". The conference was told by Salahuddin and other speakers that the "liberation movement" was in its final stages and a little push would force the Indian occupational forces to leave the area. The speakers acused the Pakistan government of betraying the "Kashmiri freedom fighters". Both Salahuddin and Sirajul Haq doubted New Delhi's sincerity in relation to Kashmir and said that the Indians would never resolve the Kashmir issue through negotiations. "Hence, the only solution to the problem is to support the liberation movement in Kashmir", was the signal from Peshawar.
