| Poswal meets Secy Tribal Affairs | | |
Early Times Report New Delhi, Jan 25
Eshfaq-Ur-Rehman Poswal president Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha J&K chapter during his visit to Delhi called on GB Mukherjee, Secretary for Tribal Affairs, Government of India and presented a detailed memorandum to him. The memorandum mainly highlighted the apathy and neglect shown by the state government towards Scheduled Tribes (ST) as a result of which they are suffering educationally, economically, socially and politically. He urged to initiate creation of separate ministry for ST in J&K on the analogy of other states of India where STs are sizeable component of population. Poswal apprised him that the then Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Kyndia took pain and interest in writing to state government with regard to creation of a separate ministry for Tribal Affairs in J&K but till now nothing has been done in this direction. Poswal added that the J&K Directorate of Tribal Affairs has proved of no practical utility on the ground for ST community which further justifies creation of ministry exclusively for ST. Mukherjee assured best of his cooperation and help in the matter as far as possible.
