| Maj. Gen. Chowdhary awarded AVSM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 25- Maj Gen. D L Chowdhary, son of the soil, has been conferred the prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India for distinguished service of an exceptional order on the occasion of Republic Day, 2010. The general officer is presently serving as President, ASEC (Army Standing Establishment Committee) in New Delhi.
Gen Chowdhary was commissioned in the JAT Regiment in 1973. In a career spanning 36 years he has held various staff and command appointments including a Colonel General Staff in an Infantry Division and the command of an Infantry Division. He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has been bestowed with the Sena Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal on prior occasions.
It is pertinent to mention that Gen Chowdhary had commanded the Jammu based Tiger Division during the trying conditions of the SASB issue and had performed commendably well. He is not only popular in Jammu but is also fondly remembered by the locals of Kalakot where he had commanded an Infantry Brigade.
