| Escape of militants from encounter sites worries police | | |
Sikander Khan Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 25: The security agencies are worried about escape of militants from encounter sites. From January 1 till date, the militants have managed to give security agencies a slip- five times.
Giving details the police said militants fired indiscriminately at the security agencies at Pulwama Sunday. Two holed up militants owing allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen escaped in wee hours on Monday from the site of the encounter.
A day earlier, three Lashker-e-Toiba militants escaped from encounter site at Kemo, Kulgam in Anantnag district Saturday. This encounter also continued for the whole night. In wee hours the militants fired at the security men from three directions and fled from the scene.
The first encounter where the militants successfully broke the cordon and escaped took place in Ubhama village of Pulwama district. One militant identified as Fayaz Ahmad of Hizbul Mujahideen got killed. His associate Abu Zaid, however, gave security men a slip.
In a similar encounter at Khrew, Pulwama two militants got killed while two broke the cordon in the evening after engaging the troops for the whole day.
Reminiscent of early 1990, the militants lobbed a grenade and fired indiscriminately at Sopore police station last week. A search operation was soon launched but the militants managed escape after opening fire at the troops.
In yet another encounter at Poonch last week, the Lashker-e-Toiba militants after exchanging fire with the troops managed escape.
The police said that the troop take care to protect the property of the civilians where the militants take refuge and this makes their escape easier at times
The security agencies, reports said, are worried and have been framing strategy to counter the move.
