| Wandhama remembers slain Pandits | | |
Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 25: Hundreds of pundits and a good number of Muslims assembled at Wandhama Monday to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the massacre that left 23 persons dead. SP Ganderbal was also present.
The hamlet witnessed highly emotional scenes as men and women from neighbouring villages met their Pandit neighbours.
A special prayer meeting was held by United Kashmiriyat Forum. Glowing tributes were paid to the memory of the slain persons. Scores of Pandits had arrived from Jammu to attend the prayer meeting. Every body especially women from both the communities were in tears.
This is the first time when Pandits chose to hold the prayer meeting in the Valley. For the past twelve years remembrance would take place in Jammu. Every year such meeting was Jammu on January 25, a Pandit said.
Gunmen whose identity could not ascertained till date stormed the hamlet on January 25, 1998 and killed 23 Pandits in cold blood. Nobody was arrested and the police have finally closed down the case.
