| 3 Cops among 15 injured in Srinagar clashes | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 26: At least fifteen persons including three police men sustained injuries in clashes at Batmaloo and down town city this afternoon as Hurriyat sponsored strike call evoked total response. According to reports, clashes broke out at Batmaloo when youth pelted stones on the police. The police responded by lobbing tear smoke shells. The ding dong battles continued for whole day. In down town the police and the CRPF personnel fired several rounds in air to disperse the stone pelting youth. Fifteen persons including three police men sustained injuries in the clashes. Additional police and CRPF men were rushed to downtown and Batmaloo to contain the protesting youth. Clashes continued in Batmaloo till late evening. Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference sponsored strike evoked total response. The city wore a deserted look. In Srinagar, all shops and commercial establishments remained closed. Traffic was off the roads. However, late in the afternoon children came out to play cricket on the deserted roads. A few private vehicles were also seen moving around in civil lines area. Reports of total shut down have been received from all district headquarters and towns of the Valley.
