| Sonia ‘sad’ over dissident activities in J&K Congress camp | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 26 – A senior Congress leader today said that that AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi has taken a serious view of the activities of the dissidents in the Pradesh Congress. She has been told that if the dissidents were given a long rope it may ultimately result in erosion in the party strength, especially in its stronghold in the Jammu region. In the meantime the Congress circles in Jammu and Kashmir claimed that the party had not been isolated by its partner, the National Conference, by appointing NC people as vice chairman of three Boards, including Pahari Advisory Board and Women Empowerment Board. According to these circles, the National Conference has left three other Boards for the Congress to appoint their vice chairman as per its choice. A senior Congress leader today said that since Prithvi Raj Chavan, had remained preoccupied with other assignments the issue of selecting Congress men as vice chairman of Gujjar Advisory Board, OBC Board and Scheduled Caste Advisory Board could not settled on time. In reply to a question the Congress leader said that Chavan will discuss the issue with the PCC Chief,Saif-ud-Din Soz, and other senior party functionaries in Jammu and Kashmir so that three names for the post of vice chairmen for these Boards were elected through consensus. He said after forming a panel of names the same was to be submitted to the AICC Chief, Sonia Gandhi. She would make the final selection. In reply to another question the Congress leader said that indications are that by the end of the current month the exercise on appointing vice chairman of the three Boards would be completed. Referring to the bane of dissentions within the state unit of the Congress he said that Sonia Gandhi has conveyed a stern message, through Chavan, to the dissidents. He claimed that Sonia Gandhi has suggested to the dissidents to fall in line with the loyalists failing which disciplinary action would be initiated against them. He said that since there are indications that a new leader may be appointed as AICC General Secretary who would be kept incharge of Congress affairs in Jammu and Kashmir Chavan decided to play safe and avoid hurting the feelings of any segment of the party leaders. He said either Chavan will talk to the dissidents personally and leave the job to his successor. As member of the union council of ministers Chavan does not want to confront Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Health Minister, by telling him to stop giving patronage to the dissidents.
