| Pakistan doing confusing tricks on borders | | | Early Times Report Jammu,Jan 27: Confusing signals continue to emanate from across the border. And it was height of military and political deceit when on one hand Pakistani troops greeted their Indian counterparts, deployed on the LOC in Poonch and Mendhar, with packets of sweets in connection with India's 61 Republic Day,on the other Rangers violated the five-long year truce on the border by opening fire on the Indian pickets. The Rangers pumped a barage of bullets on the Indian pickets in which one BSF soldier was injured while in the Uri sector Pakistani troops accepted gladly packets of sweets given to them the Indian troops in connection with the Republic Day. Why the Rangers have become impatient with the five-year long border truce ?Well they are not for fighting a war against the Indian forces. They want simply to carve out a passage for the militants to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.Official reports said that for the first time during the last 20 years of insurgency more than 800 militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, have been brought on the launching pads in various sectors across the 187-km long International Border from Kathua to Akhnoor. And it is in this connection that the Pakistani Rangers have not only repeatedly violated the border truce, during the last one month, but also provided logistic support to the militants for infiltrating into Jammu sector. Official sources said that the Pakistani Rangers made a determined bid to assist groups of militants in crossing into Jammu sector from across Kanachak sector. And during the last three weeks more than 16 infiltration bids had been made by the militants and on six occasions Pakistani Rangers had violated he border truce.Sources said that the Pakistani forces had believed that the Indian troops and the BSF may be preoccupied with the Republic Day celebrations and hence militants were given fire cover to sneak into the Indian territory on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. The Rangers, however, were amazed when they found the BSF jawans alert by retaliating the firing resorted to by the R angers. These sources said that first of all militants opened fire on the BSF jawans when the latter spotted them trying to cross into the Jammu sector. When the BSF retaliated with full force the Pakistani Rangers stepped in and gave a heavy cover to the infiltrators .This could not help the militants to enter into the Indian territory.Reports said that the agencies across the border were keen to push into Jammu and Kashmir as many groups of militants as possible because they have become worried over the marked drop in the incidents of militancy related violence. New Delhi has reports suggesting that while the Asif Ali Zardari led Government was in favour of initiating firm measures against terrorists and against infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir a section in the Pakistani Army, the ISI and the Special Service Group supported the terrorist activities within Pakistan and in Jammu and Kashmir. It is in this connection that the American President,in his latest ltter to Asif Ali Zardari, has expected the Government in Islamabad to fight a battle within the establishment so that elements within the Army, the ISI and the SSG,supporting terrorism, were purged. And these elements continue to be behind anti-India Jehadi groups, including Harkat-ul-Jehad-i-Islami,Jaish-e-Mohammad,Lashkar-i-Toiba and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.Reports said that for the time being Zardari and his colleagues in the Government treat the American President's suggestion too tall an order to be implemented.
