| Body lies in open on bank of Tawi, decomposing | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 27: An unidentified body of a poor person is lying unattended and open for the last several days on the bank of Tawi River, the area which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Post Nehru Market. During the past seven days, the police kept its vigil on high especially in the wake of Republic Day which concluded the other day. But, till today the body is lying open at the dry side of the river but, the police personnel from Nehru Market which took the round of the spot and several occasions, least bothered to seize the body and shift the same to Government Medical College for post-mortem and preservation. Further, the body has started decomposing and giving foul smell. Several passers-by also brought the matter into the notice of police but, of no avail. The scene is creating horror to the locals as they are disturbed and getting irritated over the behaviour of police. It is important to shift the body to the mortuary and also to start inquest proceedings into the cause of his death otherwise, it would be difficult to establish the identity of the deceased. It is also important to hand over the body to his near and dear for performing his last rites. When contacted, Police refused to comment over this report.
