| Formulation of viable projects challenging task: Vyas | | | Early Times Report Jammu January 27- Principal Secretary Planning and Development , BB Vyas has underlined the need for taking up, sustainable and viable projects encompassing environment and rehabilitation aspects also.
Speaking at the inaugural function of week long workshop on “Project Planning and Project Preparation”, Mr. Vyas said keeping in view the present day global environment sensitivity and rapid technological changes the formulation of viable projects has become a challenging task.
The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics in collaboration with Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Planning Commission here today. Mr. Vyas enjoined upon the participants to take full benefits of the week-long workshop, which provides a rear opportunity to learn and understand the basics for viable and sustainable project formulation.
He enjoined upon the organizers to ensure that all the concerned officers of PHE , ERA, Tourism and other line departments participate in the workshop to achieve the real objective of the workshop. He called for introducing strict monitoring mechanism to avoid the delays in execution and completion of projects and check cost over run of projects.
Secretary Planning and Development Department, Mr. G. R. Ghani urged to introduce such a system for imparting necessary training to the concerned officers in project formulation. He suggested to take up short-term and smaller projects with low cost escalation. He said identification of the suitable areas with reference to the projects should be made fundamental for the projects.
Director General Economics and Statistics, Mr. G. A. Qureshi in his introductory speech said that with the adoption of new policy and introduction of new initiatives by the Governments both Private and Public sector are new challenges. He said the workshop has a special reference as the Chief Minister has taken keen interest in development of capacity of State officers in project formulation, appraisal and monitoring as this alone can increase the capacity development of the State officers in project formulation.
