| JK govt demands Rs 25 cr package for settlement of migrants | | |
Sringar, Oct 9: Jammu and Kashmir government has demanded a Rs 25 crore package from the Centre for permanent settlement of migrants in Nowshehra sector of Rajouri district.
The demand was made by Minister of State for Public Health Engineering R C Sharma in a memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil during a meeting here yesterday, an official spokesman said today.
Patil arrived here on a day-long visit to pay homage to the victims of devastating earthquake which completed first anniversary and also took stock of rehabilitation works in the affected villages in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district.
Sharma said land measuring 41 acres have already been earmarked for the rehabilitation of the border migrants.
He also urged the Centre to open Jhangar-Mirpur-Kotli road across Line of Control to facilitate union of separated families living on the either side of the LoC.
He also demanded special police recruitment drive for border migrants of Rajouri.
