| ISRO being roped in for ground water mapping | | | The State Government has decided to map the ground water resources in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that the Government would take help of Remote Sensing technology of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in mapping the water resources to study depletion and find new sources keeping in view the future needs.
“We have initiated the process of mapping of untapped water resources as it has become necessary due to ever-increasing demand of drinking water in the state. We also want to study the affect of global warming on water bodies,” said Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din.
Sources said that mapping would also help them to design a “Water Security Plan” for each district, as per the decision taken recently.
“Engineers have been asked to use every modern technology to conduct survey in the state. It would also allow the department to find new sources which have so far remained hidden,” Taj said.
He, however, said, “Situation is still under control and there is no need of worry. We are expecting that rains would hit the State soon and end the long dry spell.”
