AZAD’S KARVA CHAUTH GIFT TO LADIES CLUB
16 ladies, children’s parks for Jammu, Srinagar, 2 parks each for all districts

Jammu,October 09 : Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday won many a womens hearts when he announced that his government was handing over Maharaja Hari Singh Zanana park back to ladies club after restoring it to its past glory.
"Take it as a gift from the state government on the occasion of Karva Chauth,Chief Minister announced after inaugurating the parkamidst thunderous applause.
Chief Ministers announcement, however, came with a rider.
"My dear sisters,I know you are all good at homemaking and keep your houses clean but I would request you to maintain this park as if it is your own house.
The state government has spent Rs 62 lakhs to bring it to its past glory, he added asking them to bring only small children to the park and to avoid bringing grown up kids to avoid damage to the park.He also advised ladies club members to constitute their executive body to take charge of the entertainment club to run it administration properly.
He also promised that the state government would identify open spaces to develop three more zanana park along with separate children parks.
Earlier senior Congress leader and Health Minister MangatRam Sharma interrupted Chief Minister half way through his speech and asked him to announce that to ensure safety and protection of women members in the club lady police would be deputed to the club.
Azad also announced one women’s and one children’s park for every district in the state. He also announced four ladies parks and four children’s parks each for Jammu and Srinagar cities directing the departments of floriculture and revenue to identify the land for these 16 parks within 15 days.
Vijay Gandotra vice president of the club in her thanks giving speech equated Chief Minister with empror Janhagir and assured him that members of the club would do everything possible to maintain the zanana park. Speaking on behalf of women members, Gandotra said, for more than one decade they were fighting for this park but security scenario in the state made it difficult for them to lay their hands on the park as it was being used as a parking space for the vehicles of security forces and other VIPs visiting nearby civil secretariat building.
