EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, JAN 28: A BJP delegation led by the party president and comprising party MLAs met Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday (Jan 28) and told him that the BJP is against the report of Justice Saghir Ahmed on Centre-State relations. Speaking to the media persons after meeting the Governor, the BJP state president said that his party has all along opposed the concept of two constitutions, two flags and two Prime Ministers and that it disapproves of the recommendations made by Justice Saghir Ahmed.
The BJP has no moral and political right to oppose the Justice Saghir Ahmed report and what it recommends. The report has recommended “maximum possible autonomy” for Jammu and Kashmir State and rejected all the demands put forth by those representing Jammu and Ladakh and displaced Kashmiri Hindus, refugees from West Pakistan, refugees from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, border migrants of 1965 and 1971 and tribal and backward Gujjar and Bakerwal Muslims. To be more exact, the report has endorsed the National Conference’s separatist and pro-autonomy agenda and painted the Indian laws and the Indian institutions black.
That the BJP has no moral and political right to oppose the Justice Saghir Ahmed report can be seen from the fact that the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, has supported the Union Home Minister’s views on quiet talks and quiet diplomacy on Jammu and Kashmir and has even gone to the extent of asking the Union Home Minister if he has taken Chief Minister Omar Abdullah into confidence before taking recourse to quiet talks and quiet diplomacy to find a unique solution to the Kashmir problem taking into consideration the unique history and unique history and geography of Kashmir the reaction of the Home Minister to which was that “he and Omar Abdullah are on the same page”.
The question that Arun Jaitley put to the Union Home Minister in the last session of Rajya Sabha established that the BJP and the National Conference are one. They are working in tandem to weaken the Indian sovereignty in Jammu and Kashmir and accommodate the Kashmiri Muslim identity politics and that the BJP is prepared to endorse any solution that is acceptable to the National Conference.
