J&K approaches Center for hike in Kashmiri migrant cash relief

JAMMU, JAN 29: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla on Friday said that a proposal to enhance cash assistance to Kashmiri Migrants (KMs) has been submitted to Centre for approval.

The Minister was addressing a meeting of Apex Advisory Committee of Kashmiri migrants, here this afternoon.

MLC Mr. Vijay Bakaya, Commissioner/Secretary General Administration Department, Mr. Basharat Ahmed Dar, Secretary Revenue, Mr. Ejaz Iqbal, Relief Commissioner Migrants, Mr. Vinod Koul and other senior officers of Revenue and Relief departments were present in the meeting.

The members of the committee pleaded age relaxation of seven years in Government service for unemployed youth, proportionate allocation of posts for different categories as these categories are present within the total migrant population registered in Jammu and outside State and not the general State population, compensation package for unemployed youth who have become overage and recruitment of migrant on remaining 3000 posts announced by the Prime Minister. They also demanded compensation for their property in the valley which is either damaged or acquired by the Government and repairs, renovations and proper maintenance of the shrines.

Responding to the grievances, Mr. Bhalla assured that the Government would vigoriously persue the enhance in cash assistance with the Centre. He said the technically qualified students would also be considered in special recruitment drive for which a Committee of officers has already been constituted.

Regarding the properties of displaced families, Mr. Bhalla said that the Government has retrieved the property of displaced families from illegal occupants in Kashmir and instructions have also given to concerned authorities to ensure protection of their assets. He said that the Government was making all out efforts for proper rehabilitation of displaced families in Kashmir valley. For this purpose, the Centre has approved Rs. 1618.40 crore. He said the Government is also establishing a township of 4218 flats at Jagti, with all infrastructure facilities, at a cost of Rs. 294 crore. He said that 3000 flats would be completed by August, 2010 and remaining by October 2010
