| House Panel calls for farm incentives, awareness | | | Early Times Report Jammu Jan 29: The Estimates Committee (EC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, which met under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mr. Mohammad Sharief Niaz, here today, has called upon the officers of Agriculture, Floriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture to create awareness among general masses about the centrally sponsored schemes, loan facilities and other facilities provided by the Government so that benefits percolate down to the farmers on ground level.
The Committee asked them to organize awareness camps at block levels to educate the targeted people about the facilities.
The Committee discussed threadbare various welfare schemes meant for the farmers, besides scope of cultivation of Zeera in Padder area of Kishtwar.
The Committee also called for distribution of quality seeds among the farmers in a transparent manner. The Committee urged for promoting floriculture in the State at a large scale and asked the officers to identify the areas in each district were tulips can be cultivated.
The Committee called for boosting of more and more plantation of ‘Nakh, peas and Ambri apple’ in the Kashmir valley and suggested for providing incentives to the growers. The Committee also stressed for preservation of walnut area.
The Chairman of the Committee asked the officers of Agriculture Department and its allied wings to work with zeal and ensure timely supply of quality seeds and fertilizers to the growers. He also asked for to encouraging the farmers who develop their own nurseries.
Legislators, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Mr. Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Advocate Abdul Haq, Ashok Khajuria, Javaid Mustafa Mir, Ashwani Kumar Sharma and Mr. Ajay Sadhotra gave their valuable suggestions for making Agriculture Department and its allied wings more beneficial for the farmers.
Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production, Mr. Iqbal Khandy, Secretary Cooperatives, Mr. Yedullah, Director General Accounts and Treasuries, Mr. Wali Mohammad Bhat, Director Horticulture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director, Agriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director Sericulture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director, Floriculture, Jammu/Kashmir, Director Command Area, Jammu/Kashmir, concerned senior officers of Agriculture and its allied wings and Assembly Secretariat attend the meeting.
