| Play ‘Hazir Ho’ staged | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29- As part of Cultural Academy’s 2010 Annual Drama Festival, Meera Kant’s play ‘Ant Hazir Ho’ was staged at Abhinav Theatre on Friday. The play was directed by Irfan Choudhary and Tapeshwar Dutta.
What made the play unique was the story line. The drama is based upon the practice of incest and the attendant guilt.
In simpler and subtler ways the directors tried to communicate the discomfort of such relations and the agony that these relations generate.
The play focuses on a family household and how instead of being a place of peace, love, compassion and security a home becomes a danger zone for the fairer gender when the protector himself turns into an assailant.
Through their play the director duo tried to convey the message that rape and incest within the families is not a new phenomenon and it was only of late that people began discussing these things.
Both the directors tried their best to send the message that the practice of incest was there right from the beginning of mankind and there was nothing new in it. The only new thing about such practices was that its knowledge was now commonplace.
The play brings to the fore the nightmares of a young girl who is caught in a precarious situation right from her earlier years.
Besides Additional Secretary Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi, a galaxy of prominent writers, poets, intellectuals and members of the civil society were present on the occasion.
Prof. Devanand, Head Computer Science Department Jammu University, was the chief guest.
