| 59 machines pressed for snow clearance | | |

Jammu Jan 29: Following fresh snowfall in the Kashmir Valley, particularly in high reaches and hilly areas, Minister for R&B, Mr. G.M.Saroori today directed the engineers of the Mechanical Engineering (MED) and Roads and Building (R&B) Departments to closely monitor the situation and press into service men and machinery to ensure quick snow clearance on the roads.
The Minister was reviewing the arrangements made for snow clearance, following fresh snowfall in the Kashmir Valley.
The Minister said that the people should in no case suffer due to closure of roads and instructed the Chief Engineers of both the departments to personally monitor the snow clearance operation wherever requred after prioritizing different roads and areas in view of public importance. “First priority should be to restore the main roads leading to district headquarters” the Minister exhorted.
Saroori said that foolproof arrangements have been made by the Government to tackle the situation. He said 59 snow clearance machines have been kept ready to meet any emergent requirement. The Minister said presently 24 heavy snow clearance machines have been pressed into service at Gulmarg, Yousmarg, Kulgam, Shopian and Pahalgam areas.
