| Kathua MC Safai Karamcharis call off stir | | |

All Safai Karamcharis Union called off its nine-day-long strike after getting assurance from the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, who is also the Minister for Housing & Urban Development Department, that their demands would be fulfilled within ten days. As per the press statement issued here yesterday, a deputation of Safai Karamcharis led by the president of union, Sawan Chita and the president of the Municipal Council Kathua, Rajinder Singh (Bubby) called on Deputy Chief Minister and asked him to concede their long pending demand of regularization of daily wagers and contractual who have completed seven years service in various Municipal Councils in the State. They also submitted a charter of demands to the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand seeking his personal intervention into the matter. The representatives apprised the Deputy Minister that about 550 posts of Safai Karamcharis have been laying vacant in municipal committees of the Jammu region, while the president of different municipal Committees have recommended 1050 more posts. Tara Chand assured the deputationists that the government would take necessary steps for fulfillment of their demands within 10 days. Soon after getting response from the Deputy Chief Minister, the Union leaders decided to call off their nine-day-long strike.
