| J&K Women Commission for setting up of family courts | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 30 : Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women proposed setting up of Family Courts to settle down domestic disputes, besides enhancing existing domestic acts and laws against women rights violation.
''Women Commission has made a proposal to introduce a bill in the coming session of the Legislative Assembly for having family courts in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to be headed by female Judges and women as its members,'' Shamima Firdous, the newly-appointed chairperson of the J and K State Women Commission told reporters at a press conference here this afternoon.
Ms Firdous said since crime against women including molestation, murder, rape, dowry deaths were on rise, there was an immense need to enhance existing laws and introduce more stringent ones.
''Ours is a male-dominating society and women have been subjected to discrimination but men should accept females on frontline and give them their equal rights,'' the chairperson added.
She, however, sought coordination from the society to help in curbing crime against women in Jammu and Kashmir.
