BJP ridicules Omar’s assertion on corruption
1/30/2010 10:54:51 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 30
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has taken strong exception to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s hypocritical observations at the State Vigilance Officer’s Conference on January 28.
Addressing media persons here today, State BJP President Shamsher Singh Manhas said that though Chief Minister is advising Vigilance Organization to bring to book the big sharks or big fish instead of proceeding only against the small fish, he conveniently forgot that it is his government which is not only shielding some of the officers and politicians convicted of corruption charges but has also rewarded them with ministerial berths or high administrative posts.
Alleging that State Vigilance Organisation is working at the dictates of leaders of the ruling political parties, he demanded SVO to be made an autonomous body.
Shamsher Singh Manhas also took the State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to task for his statement that guns will fall silent once the talks are resumed with militants and separatists adding that it is nothing but a figment of vain wishful thinking. The statement, he said, either smacks of childishness or is a creation of deep motivation and bias in favour of secessionist elements in the valley. The ground reality is on the other hand just the reverse and the young Chief Minister needs to be reminded that, going by the past experience, whenever there was an effort by the Union government to enter into a dialogue with the Hurriyat and other separatist leadership, it was accompanied by a fresh spate of terror attacks, cross border firing and infiltration bids at the behest of authorities in Pakistan who are always keen to sabotage any peace initiative undertaken by India.
The BJP Chief said the Chief Minister’s remarks about improved security scenario are also not justifiable since he and some of his colleagues are still moving around with ‘Z’ security while the withdrawal of 30,000 troops from security duty has only led to escalation in incidents of violence
