| Open sale of crackers in residential areas despite Ban | | People felling insecure, authorities silent over the matter | | GOVIND CHOUHAN JAMMU|OCT 9 As the festive season of Diwali is on the cards, the atmosphere of festivities prevails in all the corners of the markets and shopkeepers start beautifying their outlets like brides. Moreover the crackers are the centre of attraction for the children. Although the administration has placed the selling of crackers under ban in residential areas yet the crackers have been sold and purchased with out any check or balance in densely populated areas of the city. It has been reportedly said that some shopkeepers are even selling the crackers on their shops in the bazaars openly without any hesitation which can lead to any major incident in the days to come. It is pertinent to mention here that crackers are highly inflammable which can burn surroundings to ashes with even a single spark neglected. As we have witnessed in the bygone years about the incidents of outbreak of fire especially in the cities like Delhi, Ludhiana, Andrapradesh etc where the reasons behind the fire use to be crackers. Such incidents have also been observed in the Jammu city. One such incident occurred in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu last year in which various shops burnt into ashes and many people lost their lives. In a similar incident which happened at Parade some years back that also claimed life and property but despite that crackers are being sold so openly in the populated areas. According to sources, in the rural areas like Bishnah, RS Pura, Vijaypur, Hiranagar and Kathua etc. crackers are being sold openly and illegally with out any check from the administration which is waiting for some major incident to happen. When Early Times brought the issue into the notice of Divisional Commissioner, Pramod Jain, he said that the directions about the ban on sale of crackers has already been conveyed due to which no shopkeeper can indulge in illegal trade of crackers or open display of the same in the populated areas. He further added that District Magistrate has also been informed in this regard to issue ordinance. Meanwhile, talking to the Early Times District Magistrate, Hirdesh Kumar said that all the concerned officials in this regard have been clearly stated to allow the sale of crackers only out side the localities. According to the sources, the officials at the tehsil level have also been directed to keep away the sale of crackers from localities and markets. But despite all the claims of the whole administration, the cracker sellers are playing with the norms and that too under the nose of authorities which has been exposed by the self speaking shoot of “Early Times photo journalist” It has also been learnt that there are some crackers which are categorically banned to be sold or purchased any where. But despite that they are also on sale in the midst of populated places and dense markets which clearly reflects that concerned authorities are also hand in glove with the law-breaking traders of crackers.
