Jammu, Jan 30: Chilly weather conditions on Saturday returned to Jammu and Kashmir following snowfall and rains though some other areas in the northern region experienced rise in minimum temperature.
The arterial Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, blocked by snow for a day, was opened for one-way traffic after a 50-km stretch between Qazigund to Banihal, about 100 km from Srinagar, was cleared to to enable around 500 stranded vehicles to proceed.
Snow and rains, which lashed most parts of the state after the gap of a month, intensified cold conditions as mercury level dropped in many areas.
Srinagar, where the minimum temperature had shot up to 4 deg C yesterday, recorded a low of 0.4 deg C today after the city recorded an overnight rainfall of 12.5 mm.
Jammu, where the minimum temperature had for the first time during this winter touched 12 deg C yesterday, recorded a low of 7 deg C today. Kargil had a low of minus 11 deg C and Leh minus 7.6 deg C.
High altitude areas continued to reel under sub-zero temperature, with Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district being the coldest place recording minus 10.4 deg C. Kalpa in Kinnaur district had a low of minus 5.6 deg C.
