| Saroori inaugurates Dilli-Birpur bridge | | Bhalla says Government committed to improve basic facilities | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu January 31: Minister for R&B, Mr. G.M.Saroori, in presence of Minister for Revenue, Mr. Ramban Bhalla, today inaugurated 25 meter long moterable bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs. 96.25 lakhs on Dilli-Birpur road, in Gandhi Nagar constituency. The bridge provided connectivity to a fifty thousand population of 18 villages of Dilli and Birpur of areas. Chief Engineer, R&B, Mr. B.L.Sharma, Superintending Engineer Mr. P.L.Bushan Executive Engineer, Mr. Nasir Ahmad Goni , other Engineers of R&B Department, besides a number of prominent citizen and political leaders were present on the occasion. Appreciating the concerned Engineers for completing the bridge in a record time of nine months, Mr. Saroori said called upon them to continue to work with the same spirit towards nation building. Listing the achievements of his Roads and Building Department, he said expenditure of a whooping Rs. 50 crore out of the allocations for the current year, in a limited working season, bears testimony that the functionaries from top to bottom have worked with great dedication . Mr. Saroori said that the department has already formulated a massive development plan for the face lifting twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, adding that the objective providing road connectivity to all villages of the state was being variously pursued by the Government. Responding to the local demands, Mr. Saroori said that in view of the expansion of Jammu city, there was urgent need to formulate a new prospective master-plan. He said assured that drains and lanes of the upcoming localities would be developed as per the requirement of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhalla expressed his gratitude to the R&B Minister, for extending full support in the development of Gandhi Nagar constituency. He said a lot of work has been done by the R&B Department, which include black topping and upgradation of number of roads and lanes. He said Government is committed to improve the basic facilities in every nook and corner of the State, adding that road connectivity, water, power supply, health and education sectors are getting focused attention of the Government. Later, the Minister inaugurated 2-day seminar at Press Club Jammu organized by Jay Kay Women welfare society in connection with celebration of 125th birth anniversary of former President of India, Dr. Rajinder Prasad. Director Doordarshan Kendera, Jammu Mrs Naseem Khan was also present on the occasion. Paying tributes to Dr. Prasad, Mr. Saroori said that the late president played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India and was staunch supporter of secularism. Mr. Saroori said that empowerment of women was the need of the hour and impressed upon the organization to work for their betterment .
