| Health Minister honors meritorious students of Akhnoor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JANUARY 31-Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today honored meritorious students of Akhnoor zone at an impressive function organized by the Rotary Club Akhnoor. He distributed mementoes and prizes amongst 30 students of different schools who topped in their respective institutions and held positions in matriculation exams held last year. Lauding the hard work of the successful students, their teachers and parents, the Minister said that rural areas have great talent that needs to be channelized in right direction. He said students of Government schools are doing well in both academics and co-curricular activities which need to be acknowledged and encouraged for maintaining the tempo. Stressing the need for promoting moral values and social ethos among the students along with academic education, the Minister asked the teachers and parents to play a pivotal role in channelizing the energy of students in positive direction to enable them in touching new heights. He asked the teachers to work hard in shaping the overall personality of the students so that they can face the future challenges. The Minister also appreciated the role of Rotary Club for rendering the philanthropic services to the society, especially during the emergencies and natural calamities. He asked the Club to help in creating awareness among the people about the dreaded diseases like AIDS, Leprosy and work for preserving the environment and eradicating social evils from the society. President Rotary Club, Akhnoor, Mr. Sachin Gupta also spoke on the occasion and said that Club was honoring the meritorious students since 1993 and rendering social services to uplift the down trodden people. He said that Club also organizes various Medical camps for the poor at different places. He also felicitated the Minister by presenting him a memento on the occasion. Among others, prominent citizens, school children were present on the occasion.
