| Slathia seeks cooperation for making J&K model State | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JANUARY 31- Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia, today asked the people to strengthen the hands of the Government and contribute in the endeavours of young and dynamic Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, towards making Jammu and Kashmir a model State. Addressing series of public meetings at Vijaypur, Kamala, Trindia, Ramloo Brahmana and Salmairi during one day tour of his home Constituency, Mr. Slathia said that the people irrespective of their political affiliations should rise to the occasion and unitedly extend cooperation to the Government in achieving the cent percent development in the State. He said that the Government has launched a massive development plan which can not be completed with out the cooperation of the people. Referring to the Panchayat elections likely to be held in near future, he called upon the people to elect honest and dedicated persons so that the supervision of execution of development projects was ensured at a grass root levels. The Minister said that with the constitution of the Panchayats, the process of devolution of power to the people could be restored. This will ensure the people’s participation in governing the State in transparent manner. he added Mr Slathia assured that the Government was committed to provide all basic facilities to the people. He, however, said that it was a big task and cannot be done overnight, and sought the cooperation of the people in realizing this cherished objective of the Government. On the demand of management committee of Gurudwara Vijay, Mr Slathia announced that a hand pump and high mask light would be installed inside the Gurudwara within a week’s time. He also distributed 20 cheques, amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh, among the IAY of the area. Problems like upgradation of roads, supply of uninterrupted power, settlement of pension cases of widows, fresh survey of BPL families and construction of lanes and drains were also projected by the local people. Responding to the demands, the Minister instructed for installation of 40 electric poles in village Trindia and improvement of lanes and drains in village Kamala and establishment of a Computer Institute in Government Primary School, Trindia and construction of boundary wall and installation of streetlights. He also assured that all pending pension cases of widows and handicapped persons would be disposed off very soon. He also assured that the demand for opening of dispensary at village Kamala would be taken up with the concerned Ministry for early consideration. Earlier, the Minister welcomed the Municipal local member, Vijaypur, Mrs. Neelam Kumari of BSP who joined the National Conference on the occasion.
