| Opposition to grill government in legislature | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 31- The budget session of the State Legislature, commencing from third week of the current month, is likely to be stormy one as the opposition has decided to grill the government on various vital issues. They have also decided to oppose any fresh taxes and expose various omissions and commissions of the ruling alliance.
BJP and the Panthers Party have decided to raise the issues pertaining to Government's refusal to set up a delimitation Commission and settle the demands of the refugees from Pakistan and occupied Kashmir on the floor of the state legislature. The PDP is likely to focus on power crisis in the state.
According to former BJP President, Ashok Khajuria, "we shall raise the delimitation commission issue and seek support from the ruling coalition to amend the constitution so that a fresh commission could be set up as early as possible." He said in the absence of fresh reorganization of the Assembly constituencies Jammu region had been discriminated against Kashmir.
Working Chairman Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh, said that on the basis of the area, population the Jammu region deserved more Assembly segments than the Kashmir valley. He said the root cause of discrimination with Jammu was that the Jammu region had 37 constituencies against 46 in the valley.
The two leaders said that the issue of rehabilitation of refugees from Pakistan and occupied Kashmir, settled in Jammu during the last 60 years, has been hanging fire for the last five decades.
The PDP leadership has decided to raise the issue of electricity crisis in Jammu and Kashmir. Party General Secretary, Dilawar Mir, said that it was amazing that while the Prime Minister has announced that Jammu and Kashmir will get additional quota of 550 MWs of electricity on the other hand people in the state, especially in Kashmir valley, had to bear the pinch of heavy load shedding. He wanted to know the reasons behind these power cuts.
Mir stated that his party legislators would raise the issue pertaining to insufficient ration in Government shops and depots. He said that during the last six months people, especially those living below the poverty line had to suffer because of no availability of rice and wheat atta in the Government depots. “We shall raise the issue pertaining to increasing number of unemployed youth in the state.” he said and added that the recently announced employment policy had a number lacunas and the Government should have to take steps for scrapping the draconian laws.
