| Kissan Tehrik protests ration scarcity, price hike | | |

Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Tehrik today staged a day-long dharna outside the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu to protest scarcity of ration and manifold hike in prices of essential commodities. The protestors were led by the Kishore Kumar, president of the organisation while Ghulam Nabi Malik, general secretary and senior leaders including Bishan Dass, Abdul Hamid Wani and Mohd. Khalil Naik addressed the protesting activists of the organisation. In his address, Kishore Kumar highlighted the problems being faced by the common man because of sky-rocketing prices of all essential commodities and the scarcity of ration in the region. He blamed the central as well as state governments for pursuing the “anti-people” policies and failing to fulfill their promises made during the elections. Ghulam Nabi Malik dealt with the continuing drought situation and its adverse effects in the rural particularly in hills areas. He said that the people are compelled to purchase the basic essentials on high prices. “Because of scarcity of fodder the paddy grass is sold at Rs 5 per kg.,” he said and demanded that Crop Insurance scheme should be implemented forthwith and the crop damage caused due to drought may be covered under this scheme. Senior leaders Bishan Dass, Abdul Hamid Wani and Mohd.Khalil Naik, in their address, explained the adverse situation which is being faced by the common man due to power failure and its unnecessary interruption particularly in the rural areas. They demanded that drinking water supply should be made a fundamental right of all the citizens, adding that all necessary measures be taken to tackle the drought situation in the state. Later on, they also submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu seeking government’s attention towards problems being faced by the people here.
