| Govt. committed to empower people at grass root level : Sagar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, February 01:- Expressing satisfaction over the Panchayat election related preparedness, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that the present government is committed to strengthen democratic institutions and empower people at the grass root level. He said the conduct of Panchayat elections would be a major step towards achieving this objective.
The Minister was chairing a meeting of ACDs, District Panchayat Officers and Block Development Officers of Kashmir province held here today to review Panchayat election related preparedness.
The Minister was apprised that about 24 lac voters are eligible to exercise their franchise for electing 2170 Sarpanchs and 16011 Panchs in the Kashmir province in the Panchayat elections likely to be held in the near future. These Sarpanch and Panch constituencies are spread over 77 community development blocks in the province.
The Minister was told that master copies of electoral rolls are almost complete while other arrangements are also in place for ensuring smooth conduct of Panchayat elections.
Matters related to reservation for SC, ST and Women, identification of polling stations, requisition of stationery and allied material also came up for threadbare discussion in the meeting.
