| World Wetland Day to be celebrated at Mansar on Feb 2 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEBRUARY 01 World Wetland day is being celebrated in J&K State at Mansar Lake on February 02, 2010 in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forests. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah shall be the chief guest and Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Mr Jairam Ramesh will presided over the function. During the function a few publications on wetlands of various types shall be released which include Atlas on wetlands by SAC Ahmadabad (Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Meghalaya), High altitude wetlands of J&K Desk Calendar by WWF and department of wild life and Field guides on Birds, Mammals and Flora of Ladakh. The total number of wetlands of the world is 1886 out of which 25 sites are in India. Of these 25 sites 4 fall in J&K namely Wullar Lake (Kashmir) Tsomoriri (Leh), Sunsar-Mansar Lakes and Hokera Wetland (Kashmir). The mission behind celebration of wetland day is conservation of all wetlands through local and national action and international cooperation as a contribution towards achieving sustainable development.
