Jammu,October 10 :- “Prevention is better than cure” strategy seems to be totally unknown to the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).The result is evident: the JMC has done nothing so far to ensure a dengue free winter capital when mosquito borne infection has rocked the entire country and is spreading its tentacles. The fact of the matter is most of the employees of the corporation were not adequately trained to handle the fogging equipment and a special demonstrations were organised for the first time to train the staff by the Mayor Manmohan Choudhary. Not to talk of the slum areas, adjoining rural areas surrounding the winter capital the drive against mosquito breeding drains, lanes and parks has not been launched in posh areas of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar,ChanniHimmat,Sainik Colony, and the old city. Plight of Janipur, RoopNagar,Sharika Vihar, Subash Nagar,Shakit Nagar,Rajpura,Talab Tillo,BakshiNagar,Rehari, Amphalla,New Plot,Panjthirthi,Gangyla,Satwari,Chatha, is no different either. Notwithstanding drop in the day temperature people continue to be tormented by the humming mosquitoes in public places and parks. The JMC authorities are not to be wholly blamed because the corporation is faced with the problem of acute cash crunch. And against their expectations the Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, simply suggested to the corporators, during his Monday meeting with them, that they should raise internal resources for upgrading the city and for carrying its facelift. Acute shortage of funds has restricted the JMC from carrying our anti-mosquito fogging which could be one adequate measure to prevent dengue from raising its head in Jammu. Yes, the JMC people carried out a couple of cosmetic fogging exercise for the benefit of the electronic news channels. The JMC does not have sufficient funds for liming choked drains and shabby lanes. |
