| Transports deptt makes Rs 72 cr in year | | | Early Times Report Jammu February 02- The Government has realized a revenue of Rs. 72.54 crore in Transport Sector, sofar during the current financial year, against the target of Rs. 89.30 crore. This was revealed at a review meeting of Transport Department, held here today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Transport and CAPD, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon.
Threadbare discussions were held on various issues pertaining to regulation of transport, checking of overloading besides ex-gratia relief to accident victims and various decisions have been taken during the meeting.
The meeting decided that smart card based system will be introduced by the Motor Vehicle Department for registration of vehicles and driving licenses. It was also decided for immediate implementation of Government Order NO: 39 TR of 2008 dated 28.05.2008 for the benefit of transporters to provide ex-gratia relief to accident victims. Besides, the department will purchase portable weigh bridges immediately to check overloading.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister stressed upon the officers to discharge their duties with devotion and come to the expectations of the common people. He asked the Transport Commissioner to issue letters of authority immediately which are pending for the years 2007 and 2008. He also asked for updating transport website for convenience of the department, as well as the people.
Among others the meeting was attended by Commissioner/ Secretary Transport and CAPD Mr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Transport Commissioner, Syed Fazal-ullaha and other senior officers of the department.
