| Manohar chairs workshop on Project Appraisal | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEBRUARY 2- A week long training workshop on “Project preparation and Project appraisal”, was organized by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), today in which around 85 officers of the State participated. Minister of State for Planning, Finance and Cooperatives, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma was the chief guest. Addressing the workshop, he said that in the present era of rapidly changing technologies, formulation of projects has become increasingly challenging in view of their complexity, scarcity of resources and availability of limited time. The Minister asked the participants to get a good exposure of monitoring mechanism, latest techniques of project appraisal and tools for formulation of viable projects based on techno economic feasibility studies. This will be surely useful for proper project management and better plan delivery, he said. He congratulated the Directorate of Economics and Statistics J&K for organizing such useful training workshops for capacity development of the State officers. Director General, Economics and Statistics, Mr. G. A. Qureshi while throwing light on the proceeding of the workshop said that on the basis of the recommendation made in the previous deliberations, the present workshop has been scheduled for a week’s period enabling the participating officers to have proper and comprehensive understanding and orientation of the concepts and procedure of project formulation, project appraisal and monitoring. Joint Adviser, Planning Commission of India, Mr. Shatrugun Lal in his special remarks appreciated the initiatives being taken by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics for building strong database for socio-economic planning and effective monitoring of development projects and schemes in the State. Later, the Minister distributed certificates among the participants. Earlier, three publications of the DES, quarterly development journal Janib-i-Manzil (English), village Amenity Directory District Samba 2008-09 and Village Amenity Directory District Jammu 2008-09 on the occasion. Meanwhile a deputation of consolidated employees met the Minister and apprised about their demands of regularization of daily wagers/consolidated engages of the DES. The Minister assured the deputation for sympathetic consideration.
