| Theatre Fest Kulachney gets audience applause | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Feb 2 Amidst deluge of public Manoranjan Kala Kendra Jammu presented its play Kulachney at Abhinav Theatre on Tuesday. The play has been written by S. Harsaran Singh while T. S. Premee directed it for the theatre group. Kulachney as a play focuses on the desire of a woman to have a child. In today’s play the writer-director duo have taken due care of highlighting the urge of a woman to conceive a child. The main twist in the story is that the husband of the heroin is impotent and is also unwilling even to talk about it with his life partner. Although the main lady character continuously reminds her husband of the length of their marriage and the period that has passed since then. She directly and indirectly tries to impress upon the hero that he must consummate the relation so that she should conceive and become a mother. All through the play the heroin fails to make the hubby understand the need for having intercourse with his wife and thereby facilitate the birth of a child. The play takes a different turn when one fine day the friend of the wife’s husband visits their house hold and sleeps with the wife of the main character. After having intercourse with the husbands friend, the wife shares the secret with her husband who loses his cool upon hearing of this. But in order to avoid the attendant guilt and also to avoid making his own weakness public, the husband stands by his wife and waits for the delivery. At the time of delivery he requests the doctors to operate upon his wife in a way so that she doesn’t conceive in future. To his surprise the baby is born dead. Upon hearing this, the husband gets depressed and returns to normal state only once the doctors tell him that they did not make the woman sterile. She can still conceive. While interacting with his wife, the husband tells her that if she intended he would invite his friend again to the household so that she could achieve her goal of having a child. The play in fact brings to the fore the urge of a lady to conceive no matter how. As a play Kulachney sends a message to the men folk not to take women lightly but instead give them what is their due. If a man can’t consummate the relationship he should not go in for marriage and ruin the life of a woman.
