| NC leader justifies police action to maintain law and order | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 2 : Justifying security force action to maintain law and order and safeguard property, ruling National Conference (NC) leader and former minister Dr Mustafa Kamal said violence has no place in civil society. However, he said, the Kashmir issue had to be resolved amicably by India, Pakistan and people of the Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue process. Participating in a debate on a private television channel last night, Dr Kamal, uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said security forces had to act to maintain law and order when youths indulged in stone pelting. People should advice their children and not allow them to indulge in stone pelting and other acts which disturb the law and order, he said, adding security forces had to act to safeguard the life and property of the citizens. He criticised the separatist organisations for not advising the children not to indulge in such activities which compelled the security forces to act. Since 1947, the NC had been advocating a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, Dr Kamal, brother of Union Minister Farooq Abdullah said, adding that as per separatist estimate more than one lakh people had lost their lives. ''We should sit and find a durable and peaceful resolution to the issue,'' he said. The NC had also made sacrifices since 1947, he pointed out. A senior separatist and moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan, participating in the live debate, alleged that the NC leaders ''were always behaving more loyal than king when they are in power.'' However, when they are out of power, their language totally changed and they talked about human rights violations by security forces.
