| JU’s ISCAS crumbling under ‘bad chemistry’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 01: Nepotism is alleged to be all-prevalent in the Jammu University (JU)-governed Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists (ISCAS). ISCAS, constituted by the professors of JU's Chemistry Department and those of other universities in the country about a decade ago for the purpose of research and related experiments by scientists, sans any such activity. The ISCAS office near the Gujjar Nagar Tawi Bridge has virtually become out of bounds for professors and scholars as hardly anyone visits there. At present, its head is Chemistry Department's Prof (retired) Indu Bhushan. Its members in Jammu included Dr Satya Paul, lecturer Rajinder Singh, Dr K K Bomzai, Dr J D Bajju, Dr Davinder Singh, Dr K K Kapoor, Dr H N Sheikh, Prof T K Razdan and Dr Renu Sachchar. Some of them spoke to "The Early Times" on the condition of anonymity, saying ISCAS elections were due, but the set procedure for conducting them in a democratic manner was not being followed. They said the returning officer, a higher secondary school lecturer, appointed for elections was from non-research field. She was appointed returning officer because she was close to the present ISCAS head, they alleged. As ISCAS was set up purely for research purpose and providing an opportunity to budding scientists and research scholars to do their work, the returning officer could be a person from the research fraternity only, they asserted. They said if the ISCAS body was really interested in conducting elections in a free and fair manner, it should appoint any professor from the JU's Chemistry Department as returning officer. They claimed that their consent was not taken by the ISCAS body while deciding to appoint the returning officer. They said if transparency was not maintained in conducting elections, they would be forced to lodge their protest.
